Who is behind OHME!?
Hi! We're Jenny & Han, the team behind OHME! Our journey began with a new year resolution to get back on track, and that's when we started eating oat bowls as breakfast and began our journey searching for the best oatmeal toppings. Guess what we've found? Freeze-dried fruits! To be honest, our original goal was to create a healthy overnight oatmeal brand, but as we delved into the freeze-drying technology, we instantly fell in love with it! So here we are with OHME!, and we aim to bring the healthiest, tastiest, and the best freeze-dried snacks to the community!
What are freeze-dried snacks?
Contrary to popular belief, freeze-dried fruits and dried fruits aren't the same thing.
You see, drying fruits involves 1 of these 2 methods: sun drying or machine drying. Dehydrating the fruits removes moisture naturally, but it requires hot temperatures (57°C to 60°C). That's why fruits shrink in size and become chewy. Also, even after all this work, dried fruit still contains 20% of its moisture. Dried fruits lose important vitamins during the drying process. Important vitamins like vitamin B-9 / C / B (the list goes on). So no wonder many dried fruits brands end up adding preservatives to retain color and shelf life.
Now the other side of the coin. Freeze-drying involves very low temperatures (-34° to -45°C) to effectively remove moisture from fruits via a process called sublimation. So contrary to dried fruits, freeze-drying removes up to 99% of the moisture. The result is a crispy, light, airy shell of the fresh version of the fruit, which is why this technique preserves 95% of the fiber, vitamins and minerals of fresh fruit. The removal of air and moisture also makes the fruits have a long shelf life - all [ without ] anything added!
Where are OHME! snacks made?
Made locally in BC, Canada. our berry fruits are sourced from the finest and responsible farms in Lower Mainland, B.C.
The yogurt crunches are made with BC greek yogurt + BC organic apple juice. The yogurt are sourced from humanely raised cows, Kosher certified by BCK. The apple juice comes from a local farm that is certified BCARA organics.
Do I need to store OHME! in a freezer/fridge?
Even though there's the word 'freeze', doesn't mean they need to be kept in a cold environment. In fact - all OHME! are all shelf-stable (surprise)!
There is an obvious advantage in storing all OHME fruits and snacks in the original pouch that it comes with. They last much longer - we are talking about 2 to 3 years (always check the Best Before date).
If an oopsie happened with the pouch (ouch!), no worries, there's still hope:
- Store them in a resealable airtight container. This keeps moisture away and avoids air exposure, 2 things that can spoil the fruit.
- Store them in a cool, dry place away from sunlight and heat. This preserves their quality, crunchiness and shelf life.
- Store them in a moisture-free zone: to prevent rehydration and mold or bacteria growth.
I bought a bag. Now what?
That's a big question. OHME! are so versatile and packed with big flavors and colors that the possibilities are basically, endless.
Let your creativity take you to new places! Snack them, bake them, sprinkle them - let them take you where your heart desires!
Of course - always check out our social media and Recipe pages for inspirations from our customers!
Are they child and pet safe?
Depending on the size of the fruit, we would suggest breaking them into smaller pieces before feeding. Although they do melt in your mouth, starting off with smaller doses can prevent choking hazards.
